Chip industry faces shortage of 700,000 workers by 2030, offering India a big opportunity: IESA chief Ashok Chandak

The global semiconductor industry is staring at a shortage of at least 700,000 skilled workers by 2030, a gap that industry leaders say presents a major opportunity for India, as it ramps up its chip manufacturing and design ambitions. India is pushing ahead with large-scale investments under the semiconductor mission and state-level incentive policies, making talent the next big bottleneck the country must solve. “Worldwide, there is a problem, and India has the opportunity to fill the void,” said Ashok Chandak, the president of the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).
