In today’s workplace, the success mantra is, “Be a Smart Worker” and Delegation is the way to achieve success.
Delegation is an art, which refines as we practice. One should identify the key areas based on his/her expertise and all other related activities are better delegated to team members.
Delegation need not be just assigning work to a team member or assignee; it also means getting work done via human resources or machines. ... With the advent of automation, it is time we delegate simple mundane tasks to the machine which are more effective and efficient in execution.
And one of the major developments towards automation of everyday work aspects, in the last two decades, is the HRMS-Human Resource Management Systems or HRIS- Human Resource Information System. The idea is- Let the machine do your basic work at the click of a button. Delegation has been made easy, efficient and error-free.
Gone are the days of spending time writing lengthy emails to your boss seeking approvals for leave. Today’s HRMS/HRIS has evolved from being an attendance/leave marking system to an “Employee Self Service portal” where one can do more than just mark attendance and leave. The current HRMS/ HRIS systems have evolved to offer a plethora of cross-functional capabilities including delegating tasks/activities to team members and tracking the progress, automation of the Annual Appraisal Process, Sales CRM, internal branding, etc.
However, the majority of organizations today subscribe to HRMS/HRIS but never encash on the complete capabilities of the system apart from the basic attendance and leave processes.
It is time we start delegating work to such systems which provide no resistance to delegation.
As the saying goes – Change is never painful, only the resistance to change is painful. Be smart enough to be the “smart worker”, prioritize, delegate and excel.
