Karnataka Makes a Push for the Future by Focussing on IT Hardware

As India pushes into electronics manufacturing, electric vehicles (EVs) and semiconductors, the state is positioning itself as the nerve centre of design, engineering and systems integration. This is also a competitive response.

“This is a conscious choice. Karnataka is not trying to compete on who can offer the cheapest factory floor. Historically, manufacturing has followed where design decisions are made, because that’s where long-term value gets anchored,” says BV Naidu, chairman of the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission.

India’s semiconductor sprint: ISM 2.0 to back 50 startups, manufacture 3-nm chips by 2032

India’s IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday laid out an ambitious roadmap for India’s semiconductor push, saying the government plans to support at least 50 fabless chip companies in the next phase of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), also called ISM 2.0, by scaling up the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme, with the long-term goal of producing “one AMD” and “one Qualcomm” out of the country.

India’s GenAI startups triple in one year: Economic Survey

India’s artificial intelligence startup ecosystem has expanded sharply over the past year, with the number of Generative AI (GenAI) startups more than tripling, according to the Economic Survey 2025–26.The survey found that the number of active GenAI startups rose from about 240 in the first half of calendar year 2024 to over 890 in the first half of calendar year 2025.
